The purpose of the Research Associate track is to enrich the Technion’s faculty with experts from industry, government, or academia. This refers to practitioners who are typically employed outside the Technion in research and development and are interested in affiliating with the Technion in a temporary position that fits their external occupation.
The appointment and promotion procedures for Research Associate faculty at the Technion are conducted according to the Academic Regulations, Sections 36 and 37. A basic condition for appointment or promotion at the Technion is adherence to the fundamental values and principles of scientific education and research – pursuit of truth, responsibility, integrity, and preservation of freedom of thought and expression.
The evaluation of the suitability of appointment and promotion of Research Associates is based, among other things, on achievements in the field of industry and technology, according to the proposed rank, as follows:
Researcher – This rank is intended for experts in their professional field with the potential to develop as experts on a national scale, while conducting independent research.
Research Associate – This rank is intended for nationally recognized experts in their professional field who conduct independent research. There is evidence from professionals that the candidate is recognized as an expert in their field in the country. The candidate’s work is published in scientific reports, patents, and/or professional journals in Israel or abroad.
Senior Research Associate – This rank is intended for outstanding experts on a national scale in their fields of engagement. There is evidence from professionals that the candidate is among the prominent figures in their field in the country. Contributions to mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, as well as high professional status and/or a leading public role in the relevant field, will be considered. The candidate’s work is published in professional journals in Israel and abroad.
Full Research Associate – This rank will be considered based on a unique, outstanding, and documented contribution to the field of engagement, reflected in exceptional achievements in the dimensions described for Senior Research Associate. Unlike Senior Research Associate, appointment, or promotion to the rank of Full Research Associate requires international prominence.
