The appointment and promotion procedures of the Teaching Fellows staff at the Technion are according to the academic regulations, marks 36 and 37.
The basic term for an appointment or a promotion is adhering to the values and ground rules of scientific education and research – striving for truth, responsibility, integrity and maintaining the freedom of thought and expression of our subordinates. Also examined are the appropriateness of the appointments and promotions, in several aspects: the quality of teaching, including feedbacks of colleagues and students; the influence circle (course, academic unit, Techion and outside of it); professional standing (in the practical world, outside the Technion).
Teacher – this rank is for teaching assistants, tutors and laboratory guides who teach / tutor courses at the Technin.
Teaching Fellow – this rank is for experts in a professional field adapted for the contents of the course they teach, or teachers with experience in academic teaching in the field. The influence circle is limited to those courses. Expected are quality teaching and participating in updating and renovating teaching methods and learning evaluation. In relevant cases, the Fellow would be required to serve as Tutor in Charge in a course with several study groups.
Senior Teaching Fellow – this rank is for experts in a professional field adapted for the teaching contents, who have a meaningful professional standing in the practical world outside the Technion, or leading teachers with experience in academic teaching in the field. Quality teaching and an influence circle that exceeds the one course: we expects candidates for the rank of Senior Teaching Fellow to contribute to the development of teaching programs and to the updating / enrichment of courses in up-to-date contents, to take part in the development and updating of learning methods. In relevant cases, the Senior Fellow would be required to serve as Lecturer in Charge in courses with several lecture groups.
Full Teaching Fellow – this rank is for internationally proven leaders in their professional field. The influence circle of Teaching Fellows in this rank is wide. Candidates for this rank take part in the development of new learning programs, teaching methods and the evaluation of learning, on a level exceeding the academic unit to which they belong. Staff members in this rank are leaders in their professional fields or in academic teaching, and are professional and educational role models.
When making a decision about extending an academic appointment, the dean, or his representative, will conduct a feedback conversation with the staff member, during which the staff member’s promotion will be discussed.
